Beehive theft has become prevalent, especially in the US around the time of almond pollination. Nothing keeps costs down like 'borrowing' another beekeepers bees. Steal them by the truckload in FL, rent them for almond pollination in California. There are several options for asset marking, inventory, and tracking. Some work well in beehives, some don't. Beware of purchasing systems from anyone who hasn't actually had experiences with bees and beehive equipment theft protection. Buy the system that meets your needs, not necessarily what some salesperson recommends. As with all electronics used outdoors, in or on beehives, weather resistance is key. Also, communications systems often have batteries which may need periodic checking.
